Answers
Which
trip is best for us?
We do operate a wide range of trips with many options
for catering. Have a look at the 'guide to choosing
a trip' and if you are still unsure about which trip
suits you give us a ring and we will be happy to talk
about it with you.
Why
should I choose a river adventure for my social club
or business group outing?
River trips are affordable and fun options that
have all participants involved at the same time. Our
Fun Trips are just that, fun... no matter what level
of adventure different members of your group are seeking,
our range of river craft provides a fun experience for
everyone.
Where
is Mangaweka Adventure Co based?
Mangaweka is on State Highway One in the North Island
of New Zealand. Our operations
are based from 'Up The Creek' River Centre at the Northern
end of the BP and Aeroplane Cafe complex. See our Contact
Uss page for further details and map.

to Questions
Why
should I choose a river adventure for my next holiday?
Getting away from it all has never been easier or
more fun. A great experience for people of all ages,
getting you well off the beaten trackwithout requiring
a high fitness level. (except for the Grade 5 options
where a reasonable standard of fitness is required).
Camping with raft support means there
are few luxuries left behind!
Why
should I choose MAC for my next river adventure?
Mangaweka Adventure, formally Rangitikei River Adventures,
is the oldest rafting company in New Zealand! We have
the most diverse range of river activities available
of any river outfitters, from rafting Grade 5 to Kayaking
clinics on Grade 1, from one hour to four days. We have
a product to suit your needs.
What should we bring?
Short trips: wear clothes that dry quickly,
shorts, togs, sneakers or sandals. Avoid cotton, although
in the summer a T-shirt can be nice to keep the sun
off you. When its a bit cooler wear polypro, wool or
polarfleece.
We have plenty of warm gear available if you do not
have your own so you dont need to go out and buy anything
especially!
Multiday Trips:
a full gear list is provided upon Contact Us.
Back
to Questions
What
if it rains?
Rafting is probably the best outdoor activity you
can do in the rain as you are dressed for the wet anyway!
We do not cancel river trips due to inclement weather
conditions, unless the risk of flooding is high.
How many people are in each
raft?
Between 1 and 10! This depends on the raft used
and the level of the river. It does not dictate how
many people you can book for your trip.
I'm
not a strong swimmer! Can I still go?
Yes. Each person is fitted with a lifejacket conforming
with guidelines written by the Maritime safety Authority.
These lifejackets are designed so that even if the wearer
was to lie inthe water and do nothing, they would float
with their chest up and head above water.
On the Grade 5 trips we do recommend that participants
are comfortable in and around the water without fear.
Our guides provide instructions on how to handle swimming
in rivers.
Back
to Questions
Someone in our group can't
participate in rafting or kayaking, can they still be
a part of our adventure outing?
On a lot of our trips the take-out point is a beautiful
place to relax while the trip is on the water. On catered
options non-rafters have the option to eat with the
group and often there will be room for them to ride
with the group to the put-in point.
Are
there age restrictions?
On most of our trips the minimum age is 3 years,
provided they fit on of our lifejackets.
On any Grade 5 trips the minimum age is 13 years. These
guidelines are law and no leeway can be granted for
confidence and maturity.
At the other end of the scale, age is no barrier. We
have rafted people as old as 80 on some of our trips.
Back
to Questions
What are the campsites
like?
They are scenic, primitive and along the river.
We strive to have minimal impact on the environments
so there are no permanent toilets at our wilderness
sites.
We camp under large tarp style bivvies, however if you
wish to use a personal tent you are welcome to bring
one along, so long as it is a reasonable size. We can
provide guidelines for this upon request. We also have
some two, three or four man tents available for hire.
Bivvy camping is FUN!
What is the food like?
Lunch on day trips is usually buffet style sandwiches
with fruits, salad vegetables, cheese, chips, dips and
crackers. On multi-day trips breakfasts usuall consist
of cereals, fruit and egg dishes. Dinner usually consists
of a cheese and crackers platter, followed by meat,
potato and salad mains and a fun campfire dessert. Tea
and coffee is alwaya available with meals.
If your group has special dietary requirements or you
wish to discuss menu options please give us a call and
we are more than happy to accommodate.
Back
to Questions
How many people
do we need to make a Contact Us?
Most of the time we can accommodate 1 person by
joining them onto another group. On our fun rafting
trips we will go for two people.
The Grade 5 Whitewater is going pretty much 7 days a
week throughout the summer so a single person is often
OK. As a rule though we need 4 people.
The Multi day river journeys require 4 people to go
at the prices quoted.
Are there changing
rooms and toilets?
Yes we have changing rooms and toilets at our base.
On the camping trips we use river-loos.
What else can we do
around Mangaweka?
Heaps! Check out the area
info page for activities and accommodation.
